The Midway is Freenote Cloth's take on the M42 HBT utility uniform, the standard-issue garment for American soldiers during World War II. The boxy fit and oversized expandable chest pockets were born out of wartime practicality, but translate naturally into a contemporary piece that works as a heavy shirt or lightweight jacket. This version is cut from a 14oz yarn-dyed sashiko fabric sourced from Japan. Sashiko's dense reinforcing stitch pattern produces a fabric with awesome texture and a substantial hand. The indigo dyeing means this shirt will fade and evolve with time, and the sashiko texture adds a dimensionality to the fades. A French placket, custom Italian horn buttons, and single-needle stitch detailing round out a garment that bridges Japanese textile tradition and American military heritage. Single rinsed to remove shrinkage.
Relaxed fit with a straight hem. Classic mid-century fit, not too long in the body, nor too short.
