WWII 40's Sumi Coated Linen Coverall - Black

Drawn from simplified 1940s wartime coverall patterns with minimal seaming, dropped shoulders, an A-line silhouette with set-in sleeves, a single front patch pocket, and classic metal donut buttons. The construction is understated; the fabric is the piece. The base is 100% linen, dry-textured and naturally irregular, and it's been treated on both sides with sumi, a traditional Japanese ink used in calligraphy and ink painting. The result is a deep, matte black surface with a slight waxed hand that's entirely unlike conventional dyeing: the coating sits on the linen rather than penetrating it, meaning the surface will develop its own variation as the garment creases, fades, and moves with the body over time. This is a classic piece that's hard to understand until it's felt.
