Cut from a 13oz cotton-linen canvas (86% cotton, 14% linen), this open-collar shirt is part of Studio D'Artisan's Amami Dorozome series. The undyed fabric is washed at length before dyeing, developing a wrinkled surface and broken-in hand that carries through to the finished piece. It's then hand-dyed on Amami Ōshima using dorozome, a mud-dyeing method over a thousand years old that pairs tannin from the native teechi tree with iron-rich local mud, a combination that produces color no synthetic dye process can replicate. As each piece is dyed individually, tone and depth vary shirt to shirt.
